ANNAPOLIS —- The cheers of the Temple coaches near the press box accompanied the exuberance of the Owls’ players on the field when Navy quarterback Ricky Dobbs was sacked late in the fourth quarter.

A couple minutes later, the celebration spilled onto the field, as Temple was assured bowl eligibility.

After a drought of three decades, the Owls finally have a chance to go to the postseason. And it came at the expense of a Navy team that finally ran out of some of its October luck.

The Mids won two overtime games this month and held off Wake Forest in a driving rain last week. But Navy will have to wait at least another week to lock up its postseason future.

The big reason why —- Temple tailback Bernard Pierce, who had 29 carries for 267 yards and two touchdowns. Pierce had a pair of scoring runs of more than 40 yards, and rolled up 120 yards on the ground in the final quarter.
