Checking in from the Maryland basketball scrimmage, where there are some tidbits to pass along.

Most notably for the longer term: Sophomore Steve Goins is hurt again.

The big man didn’t play, sitting out with a reoccurrence of a knee injury that prompted surgery in August.

“He’s got a knee,” coach Gary Williams said. “They’re going to get the doctor to look at it again tomorrow. They’re going to talk to his guy in Chicago that did the operation in the summer, because something’s not right. It’s still not, and we could really use him out there, too.”

Goins, who played sparingly last season despite the Terps’ height-starved situation, did play in last week’s scrimmage, but has been mostly shelved since then.

“Every time he’s tried to play, it’s puffed up on him,” Williams said. They drained it last week. It just might be a bad knee. I don’t know. I’m not a doctor.”
