Torrey Smith won’t go far to start his NFL career.
The former Maryland wide receiver was selected with the 58th overall pick Friday by the Baltimore Ravens, giving quarterback Joe Flacco an extra target to complement Anquan Boldin.

Smith, who gave up his final year of eligibility at Maryland, is the first Terrapin selected by the Ravens since Jermaine Lewis was picked in the fifth round in 1996.
Smith ranks second in Maryland history in receiving yards (2,215) and third in receptions (152). He caught a school-record 12 touchdowns in 2010, and his 2,983 kickoff return yards are an ACC record.
Smith is the first Terp picked in the second round since Seattle picked cornerback Josh Wilson in 2007. Wilson was traded to the Ravens last year.
