Maryland is temporarily down to a pair of scholarship tailbacks because of hamstring injuries suffered during the first week of spring practice.

Junior Gary Douglas and redshirt freshman Jeremiah Wilson were injured last week, prompting coach Randy Edsall to move walk-on defensive backs Desmond Haynes and Kwabena Ofori to running back to provide depth.

In another backfield injury, Edsall said fullback Taylor Watson has missed the last two practice.

Douglas has two carries for eight yards a season ago, missing six games because of injury. Wilson was moved from defensive back this spring to help provide an extra backfield option.

Ofori was not added to Maryland’s participation chart until the fifth game last season. Haynes appeared in three games —- blowouts of Morgan State and Wake Forest in the regular season and the Terps’ Military Bowl defeat of East Carolina.

Davin Meggett and D.J. Adams, two mainstays in last year’s tailback committee, are Maryland’s healthy scholarship tailbacks.
