Maryland defensive lineman Justin Anderson underwent surgery Friday to fix an injured foot and is expected to be out a minimum of six weeks, coach Randy Edsall said Saturday.
Based on that timeline, Anderson will miss at least two games —- home dates with Miami and West Virginia.
The junior limped off the field Tuesday during Maryland’s first practice session and had an ankle taped. It is uncertain if this is the same injury that prompted the surgery.
Anderson started all 13 games last year at Anchor, Maryland’s strong-side defensive end position in former defensive coordinator Don Brown‘s scheme. Anderson shifted to defensive tackle to start spring practice, then was looked at at end before getting moved back to tackle by the end of spring practice.
Anderson then shifted back to end to begin preseason practice.
In two seasons, Anderson has 25 tackles (six for loss) and two sacks in 19 games for the Terrapins.
