PINEHURST, N.C. —- Almost midway through his session with reporters at the ACC Kickoff, Maryland coach Randy Edsall was asked about his thoughts about the state of the program.

Here’s Edsall’s unfiltered reply:

“I like where we’re at as we head into the season. We’re going to be down some scholarships, but all the focus is just on going out and being able to play. There’s things we’re going to have to continue to do. We have to add more depth in certain areas as we continue to recruit.

“I guess the biggest thing is that wherever it is is where we’re at. There’s going to be no excuses. We’re just going to go play. That’s the whole theme of what we’re going to do this year. No excuses, just play. Any of these things that have come up that we’ve dealt with, it’s behind us, and we’re not going to use anything as an excuse. Just go play.”

Boiled down to an equation: State of the program = No excuses. So says Edsall, at least.
