Maryland linebacker Alex Twine was named the ACC’s rookie of the week.

The freshman had 12 tackles (including three for loss) and a sack in Saturday’s 45-21 loss to Notre Dame.

Twine was making his third start of the season. He has 35 tackles on the season, tied for ninth on the roster with Kenny Tate.

Twine is the first weekly honoree for Maryland since Joe Vellano was the defensive lineman of the week for his performance at Georgia Tech on Oct. 8. He is the first Maryland defensive player to win rookie of the week since Demetrius Hartsfield in 2009, and only the fourth Terp defender to do so since 1999.
