Maryland linebacker Alex Twine won’t make this weekend’s trip to Wake Forest because of injury, coach Randy Edsall said Thursday.

Twine made 12 tackles on Saturday against Notre Dame and was named the ACC’s rookie of the week for his work in his third career start.

Edsall declined to say if freshman Cole Farrand would make his first start or if the Terps would slide Demetrius Hartsfield over to Twine’s weak-side position and start Lorne Goree at middle linebacker. On Tuesday, Edsall indicated he would likely give Farrand the nod to avoid moving players from one position to another.

And as for Twine’s status for next week’s finale at N.C. State?

“I think he might be able to get back,” Edsall said. “This week he’s not ready to go. He made progress during the week, but not enough progress to be able to go out there and contribute in any way, shape or form.”
