Navy found a big-play option in slotback John Howell in Saturday’s 40-14 victory at Western Kentucky. Howell scored on carries of 50 and 57 yards in the rout of the Hilltoppers.

Not bad for a guy whose longest career run entering the season was 15 yards.

Now, Howell did have a 77-yard touchdown reception against Army. But this past weekend, he became just the fourth Midshipman since 1995 to score on two plays of more than 50 yards. He and Shun White are the only players in that stretch to have two scoring runs of at least 50 yards.
