ANNAPOLIS —- One noticeable area of difficulty for Navy in its first two games was an unexpected place: Extra points.

Kicker Jon Teague missed a point after touchdown kick in both games, and the Midshipmen also mishandled a snap in Saturday’s 40-14 victory over Western Kentucky.

The two misses —- one blocked, one inaccurate —- already matches the most missed PATs for Navy since 2004, when four extra point tries went awry.

Nonetheless, coach Ken Niumatalolo does not believe the first two games foreshadow a season-long problem.

“We worked on our protection issues that we had in the first game and we got one blocked,” Niumatalolo said. “The one [holder] Pablo [Beltran] dropped, it was a driving rainstorm. … The beginning part of the game, it was just coming down, so we’ll give that to him. Jon knows that one that he missed, he just pushed it. I have confidence that he’ll [be fine].”
