Here’s my write-up in today’s paper on an internal e-mail from the O’Malley Administration which shows they’re unable to account for DNA samples for 2,010 convicted offenders.

Gov. Martin O’Malley built an image as a tough-on-crime mayor, during his time running Baltimore, and has carried similar policies with him to Annapolis. But critics have long charged that his brusque style of implementing new crime-fighting techniques causes more harm than good.

The ACLU, NAACP and the Legislative Black Caucus recently criticized new regulations drafted to expand DNA collection, and O’Malley had a hard time pushing the measure through the General Assembly earlier this year.
