Gilbert Arenas said he won’t appeal the $15,000 fine the NBA awarded him for not making himself available for interviews during media day this morning (Friday) at Verizon Center. The NBA handed out $15,000 fines to both Arenas and the Washington Wizards after the guard didn’t speak.

Agent Zero was on hand for photos for the media guide but then went to the trainers room to begin his rehab on his left knee and never returned. I quickly spoke with him in the hallway on his way out of Verizon Center after the interviews had concluded and he said he was doing well.

When reached via text message just a bit ago, Arenas said he would accept the fine. “Yeah, that’s what I heard,” he said when asked about the fine. On whether he would appeal, Gil answered, “No, I don’t appeal stuff. It’s cool.”

The Wizards were fined for not making Gil available, but according to a team source, fought to appeal the team fine, but had no luck.

I guess I understand the fine to Gilbert, but am a little surprised by the team fine. Members of the PR staff repeatedly tried to get him to speak, but he declined. There’s only so much they can do.

Team staff said after Friday’s session concluded that Gilbert will speak on Saturday at training camp.
