As expected, the Wizards finally signed Fabricio Oberto today to a one-year $1.99 million contract. This comes three weeks after the two sides agreed to the deal, but it took a while because Oberto was in his native Argentina and was held up with passport issues.

But now, everything’s all set and the Wizards now have the 14-man roster they will take into training camp next month in Richmond. The first day of training camp is expected to be September 29 and then run until Oct. 5.

As I blogged earlier, a 1 p.m. press conference is set for tomorrow for the introduction of Oberto, who is expected to back up Brendan Haywood and JaVale McGee at center.

Ernie Grunfeld’s press release statement: “Fabricio is a proven winner with extensive playoff experience. He is a skilled big man and a rugged veteran that augments our frontcourt depth at both the center and power forward positions.”
