The Wizards are set to take on a very young Memphis Grizzlies squad, but will do so without guard DeShawn Stevenson, who will sit with lower back pain. Stevenson after missing the last 15 games played two last week, but had a flair-up after playing in back-to-back games Friday and Saturday.
“We sort of knew some times it would be two steps forward and a step back,” Coach Ed Tapscott said. “So, we want to be cautious.”
The Wizards don’t want to risk further injuring the back, so they’ll have Stevenson take it easy, monitoring him day by day, and the hope is after a cautious approach and then a week of rehab during the All-Star break, that he’ll be ready for the stretch run.
Otherwise, everything’s the same for the Wizards, who will start Mike James and Caron Butler at guard, Dominic McGuire and Antawn Jamison at the forward spots and Darius Songaila at center.
Memphis will start guards Mike Conley and O.J. Mayo, forwards Rudy Gay and Darrell Arthur and center Marc Gasol.
