Pretty quiet down here at Verizon Center today where the Wizards ran through a rigorous practice in preparation for Dwight Howard and the Orlando Magic, who come to town tomorrow night.

“Let me see, we go from Chris Paul, to Dwight Howard. Somehow it doesn’t seem easier,” Ed Tapscott said. “We just move to a different position on the floor. Same type of superlative skill and athletic ability. It changes your dynamic quite a bit. Today we worked on a number of defensive tricks to try to keep the ball out of his hands, or if he gets it to try to get it out of his hands. But they do such a good job playing four-around-one, and they have very good 3-point shooting, so they make it difficult for you. You kinda pick your poison. You hope they have an off shooting night and then you can focus on Dwight a little more.”

Gilbert Arenas went through practice and afterwards played with Nick Young, Dominic McGuire, Andray Blatche, Juan Dixon and Mike James in a game of 3-on-3. Still no word, though, on the status of his return. Brendan Haywood didn’t practice but did some shooting afterwards.
