The Wizards this afternoon will start Randy Foye at shooting guard as they take on the visiting Phoenix Suns. Trotting out a lineup of PG Gilbert Arenas, SG Foye, SF Caron Butler, PF Fabricio Oberto, C Brendan Haywood, Flip Saunders will be using his fourth different starting lineup of the season.
Flip said that he is going with Foye because he can count on him to play with consistency (this opposed to the inconsistencies offered by Nick Young) especially on the offensive end which the Wizards will need against a high-powered Suns team.
Saunders was asked if he was able to find any positives at all out of Friday’s game in Indiana and he quickly said no.
“I didn’t like anything I saw Friday night. In terms of anybody,” Saunders said. “I don’t look at what individuals do, I look at the team. Statistics are very misleading. I’ve never seen even a bad team get shut out. I’ve seen bad teams score points and get rebounds.”
Phoenix will start PG Steve Nash, SG Jason Richardson, SF Grant Hill, PF Amare Stoudemire, C Channing Frye.
Saunders is expecting a much better showing effort-wise out of his team, but said the Wizards must be self-starters rather than going out looking to feed off the pace their opponents set.
“This is a difficult team to play from an effort standpoint because they play two-man basketball with Nash and someone else we’re playing, and the other three are standing there watching for you to help out and make a mistake and they hit a 3-point shot,” Saunders said. “Their style of play is not one that generates energy for you, you have to generate your own energy, no question.”
