*WR Antwaan Randle El missed his second straight practice. His left hand is still taped up, but coach Jim Zorn said he is resting a sore hamstring. The coach said his starting wideout might be ready to play Saturday in New York, but that doesn’t mean he’s going to let him.

*Both DE Jason Taylor (plantar fasciitis) and CB Shawn Springs (strained calf) returned to practice. Both defensive linmen Lorenzo Alexander (right knee) and Cornelius Griffin (right elbow) went down during practice but later returned.

*Zorn said WR Devin Thomas will make his preseason debut against the Jets, and he was impressed with his prized rookie at practice this morning. He did make a very nice catch in traffic, which prompted Zorn to meet Thomas on his way back to the huddle for a bit of encouragement.

*CB Carlos Rogers and LB Rocky McIntosh are not likely to play against the Jets.

*Finally, the line of morning courtesy of Fred Smoot (who else):

“We’re burning daylight out here. We’ve got a practice going on.”

This of course, came at 9:35 a.m. when rookie QB Colt Brennan had to “call a timeout” because of some confusion at the line of scrimmage.

P.S. I’m not one for shamless plugs (well, that’s probably a lie), but if you’re a hockey fan, don’t be afraid to check out In The Room today for the first installment of 30 Teams in 30 Days, or my attempt to bridge the gap between now and the start of Caps training camp.
