The Redskins were back on the field this afternoon for about 95 minutes in shorts and shells.

Some notes from the practice:

*Sitting out: CB Carlos Rogers (left calf), DT Anthony Montgomery (knee), WR Roydell Williams (left pinkie finger), DL J.D. Skolnitsky (left hamstring).

Montgomery was the new injury. The Big Fella practiced this morning but was watching by the afternoon. “We’re trying to get the swelling down and he’s itching go. He just can’t do it right now,” coach Jim Zorn said.

Williams had X-Rays on his finger but the results weren’t in yet. “For a receiver, that’s a bad deal,” Zorn said. “It was on a little route and the ball came in hot and he misjudged it. Hopefully it’s just sprained.”

*Limited participation: FB Eddie Williams (hamstring) returned after missing the last two days but sat out the team portion.

Retiring after 40 minutes were DL Albert Haynesworth (knee), Phillip Daniels (knee) and Cornelius Griffin (shoulder).

Zorn said Haynesworth received an injection to cushion his knee. “A normal thing,” Zorn said.

*TE Fred Davis bruised his left shoulder but after extra padding was applied, he returned to practice.

*Even though the pads were off, the intensity was still on. DT Kedric Golston and FB Mike Sellers exchanged words. Sellers yelled that he was trying to break up the fight.

“It’s good because it’s guys working hard and want to do the right thing,” Zorn said. “Somebody felt they got held and the other guy felt he wasn’t holding and they threw a couple of blows but they love each other.”

*Jason Campbell’s best pass of the day was a 55-yard bomb that went through the hands of WR Devin Thomas, who had beaten Kevin Barnes and Reed Doughty. Zorn put both hands on top of his head and spun around when the ball hit the ground.

*Tough second session for RB Anthony Alridge — two botched handoffs that ended as fumbles.

*Two big collisions in the secondary: WR Marko Mitchell was plowed over by CB DeAngelo Hall after a catch; WR Santana Moss ended up in a pile with CB Justin Tryon. And up front, the crashing sound you might have heard was RT Mike Williams and DE Jeremy Jarmon cracking helmets.

*CB Byron Westbrook and SLB Chris Wilson should have had interceptions.

*Monday is a one-practice day for the Redskins. Healthy players don’t have to report until 10 a.m. weight lifting and conditioning. The only practice will be shorts and shells at 3 p.m.
