The Redskins practiced in a drizzle that came and went for two hours. They return to the field at 3 p.m.

The news and notes.


*Not in pads: CB Carlos Rogers (calf), FB Eddie Williams (hamstring), G Rueben Riley (ankle), RT Mike Williams (groin), DL J.D. Skolnitsky (hamstring), RG Randy Thomas (knee) and DT Lorenzo Alexander (foot).

On Thomas, coach Jim Zorn said: “He felt a lot better yesterday evening, felt a lot better this morning. He’s on his way back.”

*Limited: RT Stephon Heyer (knee). “We did some things with Stephon so it looks like he’ll be OK in the next couple days,” Zorn said.

*Injured: WR Devin Thomas (hamstring) returned to practice but was re-injured on the first pass he caught in team drills. WR Santana Moss didn’t finish practice (hamstring) but coach.

“Things tightened up on Devin so we pulled him back out,” Zorn said. “Based on what happen to him last year, he’s a little nervous to work through it and I don’t want him to pull it so we’re being cautious.”

On Moss, Zorn said: “I think everything’s OK. He felt a little jerk in his hamstring. We’re going to get it iced down and find out what we have to do this afternoon.”

*Returned to practice: WR Malcolm Kelly and DT Anthony Montgomery.

*During individuals, Zorn broke out three gigantic rubber balls for a game of dodge ball with the quarterbacks.

*Zorn got on WR Marques Hagans for a missed route.

*S Kareem Moore and S Reed Doughty posted interceptions on passes by Jason Campbell.

*On an outside run drill, Clinton Portis broke free with a nice kick-out block by Mike Sellers and a seal block by Chad Rinehart.

*The Redskins are working a lot on tight end screens. Chris Cooley was a popular target early in camp and Zorn used Fred Davis a few times today. Davis caught three straight passes at one point.

*CB DeAngelo Hall covered the slot receiver on several snaps.
