The conditions officially became brutal at Redskin Park this afternoon when the team went through a 90-minute shorts-and-shells practice.

Practice time temperature: 96 degrees.

Practice time heat index: 107 degrees.

Some notes from the two practices today:

*Injuries: Out were Santana Moss (right hamstring), cornerback Kevin Barnes (left knee) and running back Anthony Alridge (toe). Limited were RT Mike Williams (groin), RG Randy Thomas (knee) and CB Carlos Rogers (calf).

*Special teams began the practice again. The first team defense was on the field with PR Antwaan Randle El to simulate a fourth-and-short situation where the offense may go for it.

*A few offensive coaches, including Chris Meidt and Scott Wachenheim ran post practice sprints with the rest of the offense.

*The players who wore long sleeves — including starters London Fletcher, DeAngelo Hall, Chris Horton and LaRon Landry — in the morning seemed to smarten up and go with short sleeves in the afternoon.

*Hall had an interception in the morning but the quarterbacks appeared to be pretty crisp in both sessions.

*After the morning workout, Jim Zorn said Dave Rayner has been inconsistent with the height of his kickoffs.

*Zorn on the morning practice:”I thought today was an excellent practice because it was a skills practice. We had a lot of drill work. We threw to linebackers, defensive backs, just trying to get the idea of quarterback ball speed and interceptions. It worked out great. We got a lot of things done.”

*Monday’s practices are 8:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. (special teams).
