Kudos to the Redskins’ PR staff, who had Brian Orakpo on a conference call with reporters about 30 minutes ago.

Orakpo, whose 11 sacks are tied for seventh in the NFL, is the only Redskins representative. The list of alternates has not been posted yet.

Here are some of Orakpo’s comments:

* “This is really special because when you look back at your career, you always want to make the Pro Bowl because it puts you in that elite class. Obviously, I’m not an individual type of person but at the end of the day, it really shows that my game has been up to par with the elite guys that I’ve watched and looked up to.”

* Orakpo gave a nod to veterans Andre Carter and London Fletcher for their help this year.

“I pay tribute to guys like Andre and Fletch,” Orakpo said. “Those guys really helped me game each and every time I was out there. If I could give up my spot to those guys, I would do it in a heartbeat.”

* If anything, Vinny Cerrato’s last first round draft pick with the Redskins was a solid choice. This could be just the start of Orakpo’s Pro Bowl trips — he’s that good of a pass rusher already.

As for Fletcher not making it, it’s no surprise. Patrick Willis is this decade’s version of Ray Lewis and, with the reserve selection, Jonathan Vilma plays for a 13-2 New Orleans team.

* Players with local ties were Burtonsville native Darnell Dockett (Arizona, starting defensive tackle) and Dunbar High graduates Vernon Davis (San Francisco, starting tight end) and Joshua Cribbs (Cleveland, AFC kick returner).
