Clinton Portis is questionable — “50-50” says coach Jim Zorn — for Sunday’s game vs. Tampa Bay.

Two things:

1. For Portis, questionable means he’ll give it a shot in pregame and then likely start against the Bucs and their 32nd-ranked run defense.

2. When did Portis get hurt?

It happened early in the fourth quarter. The Redskins took over possession with 11 minutes remaining. On a second-and-6 play from the Detroit 47, Portis ran for 1 yard.

The first hit didn’t faze him — Larry Foote made the tackle.

But after watching the play several times, it looks like Portis sustained his calf contusion when Lions DT Sammie Hill landed on his leg.

Portis threw his head back in equal parts frustration/pain, got to his feet, unbuckled his chin strap and then did a half step hobble/limp before the Fox cameras panned to Dan Snyder.

Portis missed the final 16 offensive plays.

Although he didn’t practice this week, I would expect him to give it a go. Zorn will have Betts and Marcus Mason ready to go if Portis is inactive. If that’s the case, then Anthony Alridge will probably be in uniform.

Last year, Portis played against Dallas with a sprained MCL. The thinking here is that he won’t let a calf contusion slow him down.
