Each NFL team has to be down to 53 players by 4 p.m. I’m told that we shouldn’t expect getting our hands on the roster much before Vinny’s 6 p.m. briefing.
Here is the rundown of today’s developments.

*So much for that No. 3 quarterback competition. Colt Brennan came into camp with his sights on the No. 2 job. Instead, he’s headed back to surgery (left hip) and is out for the year after being placed on injured reserve.
*If Chase Daniel signs with the practice squad, his preseason is a huge success. As an undrafted free agent, he played well when he got the chance and can now use this year to learn Jim Zorn’s passing offense and move away from the spread system.
*It doesn’t appear the Redskins will sign a No. 3 quarterback. They join New England and New Orleans has currently having 2 QBs on the roster. You have to think WR Antwaan Randle El (former QB at Indiana) will get a few snaps during practice each week in case Jason Campbell and Todd Collins go down in the same game.
*The lack of a No. 3 QB also indicates the Redskins might have concerns on the injury front. Perhaps Carlos Rogers’ left calf is a little bulky and they need to keep a sixth cornerback. Or RB Marcus Mason is definitely on the roster.
*Shaun Suisham winning the kicking job (per the National Football Post) isn’t a surprise. When the incumbent and challenger are tied, the holdover guy usually wins the position.
