Sad news on a day on which the world is focused on Other Things: Author Michael Crichton has died of cancer at 65. I’ve never read one of his novels, but his stories made for fine Hollywood grist. And though I pretty much accept the scientific consensus on global warming, I also liked his establishment-tweaking political temperament — which is all too rare in the fiction-writing world. R.I.P.
