Georgetown caught a break Saturday as the jumble of Big East Tournament seeding possibilities sorted itself out.

Despite a 22-point loss at Cincinnati, Georgetown landed the tournament’s No. 8 seed and a first-round bye. Georgetown plays Wednesday at noon against the winner of Tuesday’s UConn-DePaul matchup in Madison Square Garden.

Georgetown’s loss to Cincinnati combined with UConn’s loss to Notre Dame clinched the seed.

UConn, in as the No. 9 seed, is the likely opponent with DePaul finishing last in the Big East and coming off a 107-59 dismantling by Syracuse.

Earlier this season, UConn topped Georgetown 78-70 in Hartford. Kemba Walker poured in 31 points for UConn in the only meeting between the teams this year.
