If you thought flash mobs, large activist groups who appear at a moment’s notice to protest something or someone in a public place, do not practice their moves, think again. An e-mail from the Washington D.C. based liberal organization  Center for American Progress Action Fund was sent to their supporters on Tuesday asking folks to meet up for “two rehearsals for the Flash Mob.” A video of a rehearsal dance is above and the e-mail message is below: (contact numbers have been blocked out by me)

Subject: Reminder! Flash Mob Rehearsal Tonight

Just a friendly reminder that TONIGHT is the first of two rehearsals for the Flash Mob. The rehearsal will take place from 6:30pm to 8:00pm at the squash court of 1225 Eye Street NW in Washington DC. Since the doors to that building will be locked after 6pm, we will all meet in the lobby of 1333 H Street NW at 6:20pm and walk over together, so please make sure you are on-time. If there is any problem or you are running late please call my cell phone at -—_—-_—— and I will come get you.

If you can’t come to the rehearsal, remember that you can still practice on your own using the choreography video. Also we are still looking for about 10 more dancers for the more complex “Hard Knock Life” opening section. If you or someone you know would be interested in performing this section please email me back.

Here’s some irony. The CAP release form located in a link in the rest of the e-mail message (below dotted line) says participants will receive no pay for making an “Equal Pay” video:

Your signature below indicates that you:

(1) Agree that you are granting the Center for American Progress Action Fund, its agents, employees, and assigns, the use of film/video footage of you, in whole or in part, for any purposes, including but not limited to, simultaneous and archival webcasting

(2) Acknowledge that you will receive no monetary payments for your appearance or participation

(3) To the fullest extent allowed by law, I agree to waiver, discharge claims, hold harmless, and release from liability the Center for American Progress Action Fund and all of its affiliates from any and all liability on account or in any way incurred while participating in, or traveling to and from, the Equal Pay Day Flash Mob event.

Finally, linked here is a release form that we need all participants to sign. You must send us your signed release form before the event.

You can return the form to us via e-mail ( or via fax (—-_—-_——). You may also complete the form at one of the dance rehearsals. Please note that you cannot participate in the Flash Mob without signing the release form.

Again feel free to contact me with any questions or comments.
