Gingrich Spokesman: Newt Gingrich will announce his run for the Republican nomination for president Wednesday via Facebook and Twitter.

Update: A source close to Speaker Gingrich replies that “this process has been very carefully thought through for a very long time” and “Newt is operating on his own timeline, not anyone else’s.”

“Watch for important announcements in the days ahead and also note that HQ is now up and running in Georgia. It’s hard for me to conclude that this is anything other than all systems go”

Some are telling me Mr. Gingrich may very well announce by Wednesday.

5/6/11 -Did weak GOP Polling in GA scare away Gingrich?

A number of notable absences in the South Carolina Republican debate on Thursday made some wonder how wise it may have been to skip the first GOP debate for the 2012 presidential primary.

Georgia native and former Republican Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich was one of those potential candidates who was MIA last night. Sources involved in campaign 2012 say he may have seen his weak polling among his fellow Georgia Republicans which caused him to have second thoughts about participating in the debate.

Gingrich’s lame polling numbers among his home state Republicans cannot bode well for a campaign looking for support in other states as well. Could Gingrich scrap his 2012 plans all together?

What counters this information, however, is Fox News recently canceled Mr. Gingrich’s contributor contract with the cable network this week, so Gingrich supporters still have something to hold on to before he makes an official announcement one way or another.
