PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - The University of South Dakota Opera will perform the comedy “Too Many Sopranos.”

Performances will take place May 3 and 4 on the USD campus in Vermillion.

Assistant Professor of Music Tracelyn Gesteland says the school has presented dramas in recent years, but this show is full of jokes and physical humor.

The plot follows four sopranos, who represent different operatic stereotypes. The women reach heaven to learn there is only room for one soprano in the choir. So they venture to hell seeking tenors and basses to redeem and balance out the heavenly choir.

The family-friendly show premiered in 2000. It will be performed in English. Tickets cost $10 for adults and $5 for students.
