ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - A 42-year-old Wasilla man was arrested early Tuesday after a standoff in which he used a slingshot, Alaska State Troopers said.

Jose A. Pacheco was charged with seven counts of assault on law enforcement officers following his 1:30 a.m. arrest. No one was injured in the incident.

Troopers and Wasilla police responded to a home Monday night after a report of multiple gunshots and possible victims.

After several hours of negotiation and standoff, Pacheco shot several times at officers, according to troopers.

Pacheco was taken into custody after he eventually gave up, troopers said. There were no victims at the home, troopers said.

In court documents filed Tuesday, trooper David Frebel Jr. said he and several other responding troopers had surrounded the home. Frebel said he used a neighboring home for cover, KTUU (https://is.gd/oSYxEP) reported.

The court papers say Frebel heard what sounded like gunshots from inside the residence. Frebel said he didn’t know where the shots were coming from and thought they were coming in his direction.

According to the court papers, Pacheco broke out a window and began shooting at troopers with what was originally reported as a handgun and later determined to be a slingshot.

Frebel said at least four other troopers said they had feared being shot.

“In plain view inside the residence, were a pellet rifle, slingshot and two bows,” the trooper wrote. “One of the bows was a Bear compound bow capable of hunting and killing game animals. In addition, at least one arrow was located inside the residence.”

It’s unclear if Pacheco has an attorney. He is being held on $500,000 bail.

Troopers spokeswoman Megan Peters said that the person who reported the incident didn’t provide an identification.
