CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - A special enrollment period for Nevadans who tried but were unable to purchase health insurance because of problems with the state health exchange ends this week.

The 60-day period ends Friday at 11:59 p.m.

Officials say help is available over the phone or in person for consumers wanting assistance.

The state approved the special enrollment period after ongoing problems with the Nevada Health Link website prevented many people from completing the enrollment process.

About 35,700 consumers have purchased insurance coverage through the program. Enrollment is far less than an initial target of 118,000.

Last week a state board fired Xerox, the builder and operator of the website.

For the next enrollment period that begins in November, Nevada will partner with the federal government to handle enrollments and determine eligibility.
