Is football doomed? The simple answer is yes — unless it changes its approach to the game and its players. Recently Chris Borland of the San Francisco 49ers quit the game, foregoing millions of dollars rather than suffer more head injuries. There are thousands of former players suing the sport for such injuries. More and more parents are not allowing their children to get involved in the sport. The fact of the matter is that football simply cannot afford to continue this way.

The National Football League needs to wake up and realize that the more technology and safety equipment used in the sport, the more violent it has become. The simple solution is obvious: Get rid of some of the equipment, namely the so-called protective head gear and return to the simple leather helmet that was used in the beginning. Couple that with stiff fines and penalties for head-butting, including expulsion from the sport.
