SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Parents of a Utah high school student are suing her school and the Catholic Diocese of Salt Lake City after they say their daughter was raped and held against her will in a hotel room in Germany during a school trip.

A civil lawsuit filed Wednesday in state court alleges that a Juan Diego Catholic High School faculty member who accompanied the Europe trip in June 2015 didn’t alert police when the girl reported that an intruder had entered her room and raped her.

The family is seeking unspecified damages.

The Salt Lake Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/2mra3yN ) a chaperon dismissed sexual assault as something that “happens all the time.”

The Deseret News reports (https://bit.ly/2mra3yN ) the school district didn’t comment, and the diocese declined to comment, citing the pending litigation.
