The rule of law is under serious assault by the mainstream media and liberals. The fact that more than 500 municipalities throughout the United States are now declared “sanctuary cities” is outrageous. This is a crafted undermining of orderly society by the “hate Trump”ers. Congress needs to stop dithering on this issue and give the Department of Justice and the victims of violent crimes committed by illegals the legal teeth necessary to end this nightmare for our country.

Congress must create a new law that holds accountable every elected official — from governors, to city council members, to local-police-department leadership — who circumvents federal law by failing to expeditiously report criminal illegal aliens in their jurisdiction. Aiding and abetting such criminals should be a felony for those elected officials who voted to approve the status of sanctuary cities. Further, the victims of the crimes done by said criminals should be given status in the federal courts to sue those who established the sanctuary status. That way the victims can at least recover the costs associated with their being made a victim, including all legal, medical and funeral costs.

In addition, victims should be allowed to recover damages from a “sanctuary” jurisdiction’s taxpayers and the individual officials found guilty of aiding and abetting the illegals. Upon a finding of guilt in such a lawsuit, these victims should be given a punitive award of up to $5 million as determined by a jury or judge. Using the cover of office should no longer provide an exemption from criminal and civil prosecution when violating the spirit and letter of the law.
