Fox News Channel turned out to be a winner in the midterm elections, besting all competition from both broadcast and cable news rivals during their coverage Tuesday night, according to early ratings numbers from Nielsen Media Research.

Fox News averaged 7.8. million viewers during the primetime hours; NBC came in second with 5.7 million viewers, followed by ABC (5.2 million), CNN (5 million) and MSNBC (4.7 million).

CBS landed in last place with 3.9 million viewers.

The ratings victory on Tuesday caps off consistent wins for Fox News, which has remained the No. 1 cable new network for almost 17 years according to Nielsen.

Fox News has also has now marked 41 consecutive weeks as the most watched network across the entire cable realm,  trumping such competition as ESPN, TBS, USA Network, Hallmark Channel and HGTV.

Fox News Digital also drew 125.6 million page views on its website on election night — its largest online tally so far this year. On social media, FOX News was also declared “the most engaged news brand on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram” according to Socialbakers, which tracks these trends.

Fox had 45 percent more engagement than CNN and MSNBC combined, according to the industry source.
