COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) - A man charged in a Columbia killing in September died while in prison, state corrections officials announced Friday.
Michael L. Anderson, 28, of Columbia, died Thursday in South Central Correctional Center in Licking, said Department of Corrections spokeswoman Karen Pojmann.
Anderson had a medical condition but an autopsy will determine the cause of death, Pojmann said.
Anderson was being held in the death of 19-year-old E’quan Spain. He was charged with unlawful use of a weapon, second-degree murder and armed criminal action, The Columbia Daily Tribune reported.
Anderson, Spain and another man, Aaron Harris, were in a car while shooting at another vehicle when Spain was hit by a bullet from inside the vehicle and later died, according to court documents.
Anderson was serving a three-year term for theft and stealing and a possession of a firearm conviction from out-of-state. He was on parole at the time of Spain’s shooting.
Harris was arrested Oct. 30 on charges of second-degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon. He is being held without bond at the Boone County Jail.
