OPINION:
The recent special counsel report on President Biden’s handling of classified documents in effect absolves him of wrongdoing (“Double standard seen in kid-glove treatment for Biden versus full-bore legal assault on Trump,” web, Feb. 10). And it has raised a plethora of questions, foremost among which is, who is the de facto president of the United States?
In 1919, then-President Woodrow Wilson suffered an incapacitating stroke. His wife, Edith Wilson, with the aid of Wilson’s personal physician, Adm. Cary Grayson, and his personal secretary, Joseph Tumulty, effectively assumed the presidency — and held it till the day Wilson left office on March 4, 1921.
Now, in the first quarter of the 21st century, the situation in the Oval Office seems to bear an eerie similarity to the one described above. One has to wonder if there is a troika consisting of Jill Biden, Susan Rice and Valerie Jarrett running the office of the chief executive.
