A handful of Commanders fans took the Metro home from Sunday’s win over the Philadelphia Eagles, only to find the gates to leave the Vienna/Fairfax-GMU station were locked with a chain.
A video posted by “DMV Adventures” showed revelers in burgundy and gold waiting for assistance after reaching their final destination around 1:45 a.m. Monday.
“We’re locked in the Metro,” the person taking the video said. They also noted that their usual hourlong ride home took twice as long.

The regional transit trains operated later than usual to help fans get home from Northwest Stadium after Sunday’s game ended at approximately 11:30 p.m.
The video — which was viewed more than 600,000 times in less than 12 hours — did not show the riders’ quick rescue, Metro officials said.
In response to the video, the transit organization noted that the station manager intentionally locked the gate to prevent more customers from entering during a final check.
“The last Orange Line train entered the station at 1:39 am. According to video footage, the last customers from that train were exiting the mezzanine area around 1:43 am, at which time the station manager followed those customers to allow them to exit via the outside gate,” the organization said on social media.
The riders were stuck for less than 10 minutes, the statement noted.
