President Trump traveled to Florida to boost support for Republican gubernatorial candidate Byron Donalds and GOP Sen. Ashley Moody, warning rallygoers that the Democrats have nominated “the most extreme anti-American radicals ever to seek office.”
Mr. Trump held a rally Friday at Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers, less than two weeks before voters go to the polls in the Nov. 3 midterm elections. The president has been traveling across the country in the final weeks before the election to rally support for Republicans.
He has another campaign stop scheduled in Michigan on Sunday.

During Mr. Trump’s rally, he railed against the Democratic candidates who are running against Mr. Donalds and Ms. Moody. Democrats have nominated state lawmaker Angie Nixon to battle Ms. Moody for the Florida Senate seat and former Republican Rep. David Jolly for governor.
“The Democratic Party has nominated the most extreme anti-American radicals ever to seek office, including far left lunatic….. Angie Nixon,” Mr. Trump said. “I couldn’t believe she got the nomination. I couldn’t believe it.”
Ms. Nixon, a member of the Democratic Socialists of America, has campaigned on giving free healthcare to illegal immigrants, raising the minimum wage to $25 per hour, instituting a national moratorium on evictions and imposing a 5% wealth tax on billionaires.
“The Sunshine State is not going to send a Marxist maniac to the Senate on November 3. You are going to send Ashley Moody to defend your safety, your culture, your country and your freedom,” Mr. Trump said.
He also said Mr. Jolly was thrown out of the Republican Party “like a dog.”
“We threw him the hell out. He was terrible,” he said. “He didn’t represent anything that we stood for. He was in the party, didn’t represent the party. He was also a bad guy. Guy had no heart, no soul. Everybody hated this guy so much. We couldn’t get him out of here fast enough.”
Mr. Trump said Mr. Jolly “changed every position he had” when he switched from a Republican to a Democrat.
“Byron Donalds will keep the state a sanctuary for law-abiding Americans, not victorious criminal aliens,” he said.
A poll released Wednesday by the University of North Florida’s Public Opinion Research Lab found that 49% of likely voters support Mr. Donalds, compared to 47% who support Mr. Jolly. Mr. Donalds’ two-point advantage falls within the margin of error, making the race a statistical tie.
The same poll found Ms. Moody leads Ms. Nixon 49% to 45%.
