Celebrating Christmas was against the law in Puritan times

On their first Christmas in the New World, the Puritans in Massachusetts did not celebrate the holiday at all. Instead, they worked in the fields. In fact, the colony outlawed the celebration of Christmas from 1659 to 1681. Anyone caught celebrating was fined five shillings. Published December 23, 2014
