The Department of Homeland Security said Wednesday that a Democratic congressional campaign in Pennsylvania was employing an illegal immigrant who was charged with indecent exposure after being caught with his pants off in public.

Chimaobim Adedayo Igbojekwe, a Nigerian citizen, was arrested on Sept. 27 by police in East Pennsboro Township. He pleaded guilty to a disorderly conduct charge.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement then arrested him on Oct. 1.

Local news reports identified Mr. Igbojekwe as a canvasser for Janelle Stelson, the Democratic nominee seeking to unseat Republican Rep. Scott Perry. He had campaign literature in his vehicle.

But the Stelson campaign said the man wasn’t part of the campaign.

“This is false. This individual is not and has never been employed by the Janelle Stelson campaign,” the campaign said in a statement. “If he is an illegal immigrant who committed a crime he should be deported. We never heard of him prior to the news of his arrest. We are grateful to law enforcement for acting swiftly to arrest him.”

Homeland Security heaped blame on the campaign.

“It’s unbelievable that Janelle Stelson would employ an illegal alien to work on a congressional campaign, let alone a pervert who exposed himself in public,” said Charles Wall, deputy director at ICE.

Local reports said Mr. Igbojekwe was sitting in his SUV with just a shirt and no pants or underwear, leaving his genitals exposed, when police encountered him.

The local reports said he was surprised to learn that was illegal.

DHS said Mr. Igbojekwe came to the U.S. in June 2017 on a legal visa but his time expired in 2019. He remained in the U.S. illegally and was granted deferred action — a deportation amnesty — in 2021, under President Biden.
