A petition is calling for Meghan Markle’s removal from the “Junior MasterChef Australia” competition show after she was announced as a special guest.

The Change.org petition, which has about 3,000 signatures, cites allegations that Ms. Markle’s estranged father, Thomas Markle Sr., possessed child pornography.

Petition organizers say the allegations raise questions about her suitability for a program featuring young contestants.

The Sydney-based TV production company Endemol Shine Australia announced Tuesday that Ms. Markle, the United Kingdom’s Duchess of Sussex, will appear with chef Poh Ling Yeow when the children’s cooking competition returns to Network 10 in 2027.

The announcement identifies her as a special guest, not a permanent host.

Ms. Markle said in a statement this month that she was told of the allegations years ago and believed authorities were investigating them. She said her decision to keep her children from their grandfather was motivated by safety concerns.

“MasterChef Australia” executive producer Marty Benson defended bringing her on the program, telling The Age that he sent a “press send and pray” email to invite her.

Ms. Markle appeared on “MasterChef Australia” in April and said returning was “an easy yes.”
