COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - A South Carolina judge has agreed to a 45-day suspension for getting into a fight at a social club meeting.
The state Supreme Court ruled Wednesday that Newberry County Magistrate Gordon Johnson violated the code of conduct for judges.
The justices say Johnson got into an argument that escalated into a fight with someone in February 2016 at a meeting of the Newberry Cotillion Club.
The ruling didn’t say what the fight was about at the meeting of the club that holds formal balls for young women.
Authorities say both the judge and the other person suffered minor injuries.
The ruling says Johnson agreed to a suspension of no more than 90 days. The justices decided he should be kicked off the bench for 45 days.
