Sen. Dianne Feinstein released a list of 157 rifles, handguns and shotguns that will be banned if her legislation passes Congress.

It would be illegal to manufacture, buy, trade or import any of these firearms, along with any others that have a detachable magazine and one cosmetic feature like a pistol grip.

“Weapons designed originally for the military to kill large numbers of people in close combat are replicated for civilian use,” the California Democrat said while showcasing many of these rifles that are illegal in Washington, D.C. where she held the press conference. “They fall into the hands, one way or another, of killers, of gangs, of those who are mentally unstable or ill. They are sold out of trunks and back seats of automobiles in cities, as well as gun shows, with no questions asked.”

The bill, which was also introduced Thursday in the House by Rep. Carolyn McCarthy, New York Democrat, says that owners of one of these “assault weapons” wants to sell or transfer it, he will have to put the buyer though a government background check.

None of these guns function any differently than any other standard semi-automatic weapon. What makes a gun get on Mrs. Feinstein’s list is that it appears scary to her. We really should be governing by fact and not not emotion.
