I just got off the phone with Pat Brisson, Sergei Fedorov’s agent. He said Sergei has agreed to a one-year deal with the Caps. He said Sergei was flying to Michigan this afternoon and couldn’t confirm if he has actually signed the contract. We are about to talk to GM George McPhee, and Brisson said McPhee should be able to give us more information about the deal. Brisson did not want to confirm or deny the money invloved. More on this later.
UPDATE: GM George McPhee just addressed the media. He confirmed that Sergei Fedorov has agreed to a deal with the Caps, but there is still some paperwork and administrative stuff to take care of. He also confirmed the deal is for one year and $4 million.
He said there are no bonuses in the deal, so the worries other teams have about juggling the cap and possible bonuses for 35 and over players will not apply for Washington. Both McPhee and Brooks Laich lauded Fedorov for his leadership after joining the Caps in a trade from Columbus in late February.
