Nicklas Backstrom and Alex Ovechkin are the No. 1 and No. 2 stars of the week in the NHL. Backstrom had two goals and nine assists in the four games (the Caps went 3-0-1), and Ovechkin racked up five goals and five assists. Ovechkin also moved into a tie with Alexander Semin for the league lead in plus-minus (+17) and Backstrom is up to a tie for third (+11) with Mike Green and Chicago’s Aaron Johnson.

Other notes from after practice:

*Semin left practice early, but Bruce Boudreau hopes he can be ready for Wednesaday’s game in Anaheim. He wore an orange jersey to avoid contact for his upper body/shoulder/back problem.

*Shaone Morrisonn said he thinks he will be ready to play Wednesday. Tyler Sloan is going on the trip (and it could be argued he deserves to stay in the lineup when Morrisonn comes back).

*Sergei Fedorov is going on the trip, but he didn’t look very close to returning today. His ankle was still clearly bothering him when he came off the ice.
