Right before the start of last season, we introduced our first edition of The TWT 20, which is our look (i.e. educated guess) at the top 20 prospects in the Washington Capitals’ system.

Now it is time to update that list for the summer. We’ll probably update it again before the season starts, once some of these kids have spent two weeks practicing/playing at K-Plex.

20. FRANCOIS BOUCHARD, RW (16)

Graduated: Karl Alzner (1)

Off the list: Sami Lepisto (5, traded), Josh Godfrey (9), Daren Machesney (12, released), Viktor Dovgan (15), Eric Mestery (18), Kyle Wilson (19), Andrew Joudrey (20, released).

Skinny: The first two are pretty easy. Neuvirth earns the third spot with his postseason play. Johansson over Gustafsson because he’s already played in the SEL (and in the WJC). Holtby’s a high-riser after his stellar year with Saskatoon. Della Rovere might never be a star in the NHL, but he looks like a guy who is going to make it.

Broda potted more than 50 goals in the WHL last year, but hasn’t signed yet. That will be worth watching this summer. Beagle and Collins could be higher on this list, but a few of those other guys have more upside.

This is a HUGE year for several guys including: Bouchard, Godfrey, Pinnizotto and Dovgan. They are off the prospect radar if they don’t have a good year.
