Alex Ovechkin just addressed the media in between periods. He said it was his mistake and an accident that he took a shot off his right foot during practice.

“It was my mistake,” Ovechkin said. “I don’t know what I was thinking going to the net. It was just an accident and it happens.”

He said he and trainer Greg Smith tried different forms of treatment, but after his attempt to skate this morning, it was decided that Ovechkin would sit out.

“It is always hard to when my teammates play without me and I can’t even help them – just sit here and try to cheer for them,” Ovechkin said. “It is hard, but this happens. You can’t every 1,000 games without something happening.”

When asked if he will play Sunday against Pittsburgh, Ovechkin said probably. He also if this was a playoff game he would have probably played. Of course, he also said he would probably play through a broken leg in a playoff game.
