The Caps signed Anton Gustafsson to an entry-level deal today. It is a three-year pact. Gustafsson was the team’s first pick in the 2008 draft at No. 21 overall.
Since the day the Caps drafted him, Gustafsson has expected to play two years in Sweden before crossing the pond. He played in Sweden’s version of the AHL this year and is expected to be in the Elite League full time next season.
He is, of course, the son of Bengt Gustafsson, a longtime Capitals player and now the head coach of the Swedish national team. He has struggled greatly with injuries the past two seasons, but he should be at the team’s rookie camp in July.
