Obama fundraising kicks off Thursday

President Obama will kick off the fundraising effort for his re-election bid Thursday night in Chicago, where he will headline an event at the Navy Pier, the Democratic National Committee announced Monday.

Mr. Obama, whose campaign headquarters are once again in the Windy City, filed paperwork last week to become the first official candidate for president next year. 

The White House said the president would spend the night in Chicago and return to Washington on Friday morning.
