President Obama, who was golfing in Martha’s Vineyard Tuesday afternoon when a 5.9-magnitude earthquake rocked parts of the East Coast, convened a conference call with top staffers to discuss the status of critical infrastructure, the White House said.
The call included Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, White House Chief of Staff Bill Daley, National Security Advisor Tom Donilon, Homeland Security Advisor John Brennan, FEMA Administrator Craig Fugate and Nuclear Regulatory Commission Chairman Greg Jaczko.
“The president was told that there are no initial reports of major infrastructure damage, including at airports and nuclear facilities and that there were currently no requests for assistance,” principal deputy press secretary Josh Earnest told reporters.
The earthquake, centered outside of Richmond, Va., was reportedly felt as far north as Toronto. Reporters traveling with Mr. Obama said they felt it on the resort island.
